Eileen Duggan 1894 - 1972Eileen Duggan was born on the Wairau Plain, South Island, of Irish parentage.

After a short career as a teacher Eileen spent most of her adult life with her sister in Wellington. She has been acclaimed the unofficial Catholic poet laureate. Her poems and historical articles were published in the Catholic and secular press for over fifty years, and were infused with a sense of Irish and New Zealand history and with an appreciation of God in nature. Eileen was a personal friend of the Sisters, and wrote many articles about Mother Aubert for the New Zealand Catholic Tablet. She also wrote two poems that were relevant to her, one is called "Hush, O Hiruharama" and the other "She saw in each of these…" |
