Become a Compassionate FriendSisters of Compassion are New Zealand’s only ‘home-grown’ religious. Founded in 1892 by Mother Mary Joseph (Suzanne) Aubert, the mission of the Sisters is best described as providing Care with Compassion. This is done in New Zealand through: Providing meals for those who call at our Tory Street soup kitchen. Aged care facilities at Wanganui and Heretaunga. Childcare facilities at Island Bay. Pensioner rental units at Upper Hutt. And counseling, pastoral care and prison chaplaincy in several cities and towns. And pastoral care at Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Suva, Fiji and Houma, Tonga. We rely on donations for food and money to minister to those who come to us. What is involved in being a Friend?By becoming a Compassionate Friend you will be asked to do two key things: Make a commitment to pray once a week for the Sisters, the co-workers and those who we strive to help. Agree to give an annual donation of $25 to support us in our ministry. What will You receive from us?As a Compassionate Friend, you will: Receive our quarterly newsletter. Receive a certificate of acknowledgement. Be invited to attend an annual gathering in your area. In addition, we will agree to pray for you and your family during our weekly Masses.
