Compassion Centre's Volunteers

Volunteers are very important to provide the services we offer, and it has been heartening to note that a good half of the volunteers offering their time to work in the soup kitchen in particular, are under the age of thirty. We have a good mix of men and women, and a variety of racial backgrounds. Apart from the more usual volunteer work, some different challenges have been very successfully met. One volunteer has taught a refugee solo mum to drive; a young woman co-ordinated a Karori Anglican Church youth group to help with the Food Day Appeal and another group came at short notice to unpack a large donation of emergency supplies an organisation was updating. Some of our long serving volunteers, of up to forty faithful years, have retired this year. Their contribution over such a long time is incalculable. Such people are part of the backbone of the organisation. On behalf of the Sisters, the Board and staff at Compassion Centre, I would like to thank all our volunteers - “we couldn’t do it without you!”
